Feel like perhaps you need a life coach? Or a therapist? It’s normal. I’d love to have a therapist on-call! One that I could text, or dial up, at a moment’s notice, to complain about my inability to concentrate, my IBS, my lack of drive and excitement, the horrid night sweats! And Oh! So many, many other things! I’d received some pajamas from my hubby. Cooling, bamboo pajamas. They work very well at wicking away the moisture from your over-heated body, allowing it to breathe. They’re a little on the pricey side, but worth it. I’ve also resorted to buying bulk men’s tees so that I can change several times a night without having to do laundry every single day to keep up with these middle-of-the-night wardrobe changes. This fresh from the fires of hell symptom, along with all of the other menopause crap that I survive with every day (albeit, sometimes not very well) have led me down a path. A path of research to help me understand the How’s and Why’s of menopause symptoms – and how best to fix them! We do not want this to be the new norm! VMS: Vasomotor Symptoms vasomotoradjectiveva·so·mo·tor ˌvā-zə-ˈmō-tər : of, relating to, or being nerves or the centers (as in the medulla oblongata or spinal cord) from which they arise that regulate the amount of blood passing to a particular body part or organ by controlling the internal diameter of blood vessels https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vasomotor Say what? Here’s an infographic that should explain it nicely…. Great! Now that we know what causes these internal furnace bursts how do we get rid of them?
Studies have shown that HRT or HT (hormone replacement therapy or hormone therapy) can help greatly with most menopause symptoms. However, a lot of women are still very scared of the increased risk of certain cancers from consuming higher levels of estrogen over a longer period of time. There is hormone therapy that is approved and controlled by the FDA. Then there is “bioidentical hormone therapy” that is not approved or controlled by the FDA, but rather by your physician writing a prescription based on your specific hormone needs, along with the pharmacist (“compounding pharmacy”) who specializes in making your medication customized by the physicians’ prescription. Phytoestrogens – “Plant” Estrogens Then there are Phytoestrogens. To me, this seems the easiest. And the least risky. Phytoestrogens are plant nutrients found in several different types of food such as soy products, grains, beans, and some fruits and vegetables. Phytoestrogens, especially when consumed regularly during childhood, have been linked to a decreased risk of breast cancer. From: Breast Cancer Prevention Partners You’ll find all kinds of articles from all kinds of sources out there that say different things about all of these options for balancing your hormones. Absolutely discuss this with your physician, or even possibly an endocrinologist. Decide what’s best for you. Besides what I've briefly been covered here, there are also many natural supplements that you could take to help control various symptoms. Do your research! Again, deciding what’s best for you is what gives you power. Making that informed decision for YOU is something you’ll be at peace with, and it won’t matter to anyone else, except for you, in the long run. I’m not a nurse or a physician, but I have done extensive research on menopause. If you have questions, I’d love to help!
